抑郁症状在DM(25.6%)和NDM(23.5%)中报告率相似;焦虑症状在各组间也相当。
BACKGROUND: Psychosocial screening is growing in diabetes care, however, its role in broader metabolic populations remains unclear. This study aimed to describe patient-reported psychosocial outcomes and their associations with cardiometabolic characteristics in individuals managed through a digitally enabled hybrid care model.
METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study included adults at Metabolic (United Arab Emirates) enrolled between September 2024 and December 2025. Patients were categorized into diabetic (DM), non-diabetic metabolic (NDM), and overweight-obesity focused (OB) cohorts. Scores for various psychosocial tools were recomputed from item-level responses, and biochemical measures were extracted from medical records. Associations were examined with multivariable logistic regression.
RESULTS: Of 7,449 patients, 937 (12.6%) had DM, 5,594 (75.1%) had NDM, and 918 (12.3%) had OB. High risk for obstructive sleep apnea was present in 49.8% of DM, 27.7% of NDM, and 32.4% of OB patients. Depressive symptoms were reported similarly in DM (25.6%) and NDM (23.5%); anxiety symptoms were also comparable across groups. Diabetes distress affected 50.6% of DM patients. HbA1c correlated with PAID-5 distress, and BMI was associated with various psychosocial outcomes; discrimination was modest (AUC 0.55-0.67). Conclusion Depressive and anxiety symptoms were prevalent in both non-diabetic and those with diabetes, suggesting the need for structured screening beyond diabetes.
